The Hans Gerhard Evers Collection

Research archive relating to scholarship on Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), including documentation of artworks.

History, content and structure

Hans Gerhard Evers (1900-1993) was a versatile and innovative art historian and professor. He studied Rubens’ artworks and life for more than fifty years. In 1942 he published a monography about the Flemish painter, but he continued completing his documentation after the publication.

Since 1993 the collection is stored at the Rubenianum. It consists of photographs, notes, extracts from different publications, bibliographic references and correspondence about Rubens. The archive includes also some material about Evers’ activities as a Rubens specialist, such as draft texts of publications and lectures, reports and documents related to his participation in events.
