The reading room is freely accessible to the general public. Visitors are welcome on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The reading room is on the first floor of the library at Kolveniersstraat 20. There is a lift for wheelchair users. Information about the location and annual public holidays on which the reading room is closed can be found here.
When a document has been requested online, it is fetched and set aside for the visitor in the reading room. It can then be consulted on the premises (works may not be removed from the premises). Recent journals, books and catalogues as well as a number of reference works are freely accessible for consultation.
Reader’s card and consulting this source
From 6 December on maintenance work will be carried out in our building. Throughout the duration of the work, our aim is to still provide you with the best possible reading room services, but part of the collection will be temporarily unavailable. Documents should preferably be requested at least one day before your visit. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Membership of the Rubenianum is free of charge. To consult the collections you require a reader’s card, known as an 'A card'. If you already possess an A card, you can register as a reader in advance using the online registration form. If not, you can have an A card made when you visit, using your e-ID. An A card can be purchased at the reception desk for €3.
This proof of membership provides access to the Rubenianum’s online services. To request a particular title or documentation file using the online catalogue, you should login with the numerical code on your A card to identify yourself and then enter your date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy) as the password.
Reading room regulations
Please study the reading room regulations before your visit. For some documents or collections, special conditions may apply. You can obtain more information when you visit the building.
