Even before man paints himself, he paints birds: as early as the Palaeolithic Era, they appear in cave paintings. In the following centuries their appearance changes from mythical to hyperrealistic and scientific.
Writer and art historian Depoorter took us on a journey through this fascinating world of ornithology, with a focus on painted birds in the arts from the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries. Special attention was paid to paintings from museum collections in Antwerp.
