Reading room

The reading room of the Rubenianum is freely accessible to all. With a reader’s pass you can submit online requests for books and documentation that you can then study in the reading room. Please take the time to read the reading room regulations before your visit.

General information

The reading room is freely accessible to the general public. The reading room is on the first floor of the library at Kolveniersstraat 20. There is a lift for wheelchair users. You are welcome on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Information about the location, adjusted opening times and days on which the reading room is closed can be found here

When a document has been requested online, it is fetched and set aside for the visitor in the reading room. It can then be consulted on the premises. Our research collections may not be removed from the premises. Recent journals, books and catalogues as well as a number of reference works are freely accessible for consultation in the reading room.

Reader’s card and consulting this source

Membership of the Rubenianum is free of charge. To consult the collections you require a reader’s card, known as an 'A card'. If you already possess an A card, you can register as a reader in advance using the online registration form. If not, you can have an A card made when you visit, using your e-ID. An A card is available at the reception desk and is free of charge.

This proof of membership provides access to the Rubenianum’s online services. To request a particular title or documentation file using the online catalogue, you should login with the numerical code on your A card to identify yourself and then enter your date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy) as the password.

Reading room regulations

Please study the reading room regulations before your visit. For some documents or collections, special conditions may apply. You can obtain more information on our website or when visiting the reading room.
